On December 15, “Ensuring Blood and Blood Product Availability and Timely Provision and Delivery in Support of UN Field Operations” project was launched at the UNIFIL Headquarters at Naqoura. Counsellor Zhang Qun of the Chinese Embassy and representatives from the UN Peace and Development Trust Fund, Department of Operational Support of the UN, Department of Mission Support and medical teams of the UNIFIL attended the event.

Counsellor Zhang Qun in his reamrks referred to the China-UN Peace and Development Fund, announced by President Xi Jinping,as a significant initiative to support the UN. Projects implemented under the initiative include rapid deployment of peacekeeping operations and training of peacekeepers, providing strong support for UN peacekeeping. China will work with the UN bodies to develop more high-quality projects.

Representatives of UN bodies and the UNIFIL expressed gratitude to China for its long-term support to key UN agendas, particularly in the areas of peacekeeping support and capacity-building, and noted that this project would contribute to ensuring safety of peacekeepers.

The nearly-launched project is funded by the China-UN Peace and Development Fund.
